Exploration of The Northern end of the Canadian portion of the Inside Passage (Johnstone Strait), British Columbia, Canada
August 22 – August 29, 2024
After two successful years exploring the Inside Passage, I had planned to make the third phase of my journey the exploration of Haida Gwaii. My goal was to reach the northernmost part of the passage before crossing into Alaskan waters. However, when my paddling partner decided to sit this out, I knew it was time to change my plans. Instead of going to Haida Gwaii, I chose a different northern section of the passage, offering fresh challenges and experiences.
This phase presents four unique opportunities:
- Northern Inside Passage Exploration: I’ll continue my exploration of the northern sector of the Inside Passage.
- Cultural Immersion: The journey will allow for a deeper connection with the Kwakiutl culture, providing meaningful interactions with the indigenous peoples of the area.
- The Great Bear Rainforest: I’ll finally get to see The Great Bear Rainforest, a cause I’ve supported through Susan Conrad’s Pacific Wild charity.
- Real-Time Support: Tom McGuire, a veteran of the Arctic Cowboys’ Northwest Passage expedition, will support me throughout, providing updates on weather, and water conditions, and managing real-time updates for the website and social media.
Adding to the adventure, I will be accompanied by two guides from karibu Adventures. Andrew Jones will be my guide while paddling and Thomas Namiss, of the Kwakiutl First Nation will help facilitate my interaction with the tribe. The 7-day journey from August 22-29 promises to be an unforgettable experience.
